Sony Cancels 2 PlayStation Games, Including 'God of War' Sequel

Sony has scrapped two unannounced live-service games under the PlayStation label, according to a new report.

A Sony representative confirmed the cancellations to Bloomberg, citing a "recent review." The new games were being developed at Sony's US subsidiaries Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games before they were canceled, although neither studio is being closed. Other PlayStation games will be created in the future, although it is unknown if any staff from either company would be fired off.

Bend Studio, based in Oregon, still offers over a half-dozen employment openings on its website. Sony purchased the studio in 2000, and it has since developed over a dozen games, including the open-world adventure title Days Gone. Bluepoint Games, based in Texas, was bought by Sony in 2021 and has worked on titles such as Titanfall and God of War: Ragnarok.

"Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what are the next projects," the Sony representative.

While one of the games was thought to be a live-service multiplayer God of War title, Bend Studio's suspended project might have been a third-person military shooter.

In 2023, Sony said that it would only release six games by the fiscal year 2025, but the fate of the remaining six titles remained questionable. We now know that at least two of the twelve titles have been canceled, including the hero shooting game Concord, which was discontinued barely two weeks after its release. It had previously cancelled a Last of Us game. Helldivers 2 was launched last year and was a huge hit.

Last year, Sony fired off 900 PlayStation staff and closed its London studio.
